Students in this MCT program may also choose electives from appropriate graduate-level theology courses offered at another university such as Conrad Grebel University College. The maximum number of courses that can be taken from another university is three.

Students must obtain a minimum overall average of B or 75 in all courses.
Research Paper or Project Requirements [CT 606]

Students are expected to complete a master’s-level research paper, 35-50 pages [8750-12,500 words] or complete a discipline or profession-related research project. The nature of the research project will be determined in consultation with the Director of the program.

The paper/project will be evaluated by two faculty members: the supervisor and one other faculty member who teaches in the core of the program.

A conversation focusing on the research paper or project shall normally take place between the student, the supervising faculty member, the second reader, and the Graduate Program Director (or designate). This provides the student with an opportunity to present and discuss the research undertaken in the paper or project.

Students must obtain a minimum grade of B or 75 for the paper or project.

Modes of Delivery
To meet the needs of part-time students, the modes of delivery of the courses will be many. For example:

(i) courses can be taught during regular semesters but offered in the evening, e.g., one evening per week for 12 weeks, 3 hours per evening;

(ii) courses can be taught in a two-week intensive period, 4 hours per day, 5 days per week.

Check Course Registration and Schedule for information on upcoming courses.

As well, because the program is meeting the needs of a wide geographical area, courses will be taught off-site when feasible.

Completion of the Program
The five electives in this program can be taken in any order provided that any course prerequisites have been met. It is expected that at least one elective, and typically more, will be offered every term.

Normally, the research paper/project will be started only when the coursework is completed.

Students wishing to take two courses every term can complete their course work requirement in six consecutive terms. Students wishing to take one course every term can complete their course work requirement in ten consecutive terms. Given the students that are expected to take this MCT program, interruptions due to professional or personal commitments are anticipated.

Typically, students should be able to complete their course requirements in four years, five years when allowing for significant interruption. The research paper/project is expected to take one year to complete. Hence, there is every reason to believe that students can complete all of their degree requirements in a maximum of seven years.

Master of Catholic Thought at University of St. Jeromes College Canada

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

We have designed this program to respond to the need for Catholics who provide leadership in areas such as health care, social services and education to be theologically informed about Roman Catholic life and thought.

As the Roman Catholic university in the Diocese of Hamilton, we want to provide a quality, master’s-level theological program for persons who live and work within this diocese.

News and Events

We also want to serve those Catholics and non-Catholics alike who, for personal reasons, want to pursue a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic tradition.

Since its inception in 1865 by Father Louis Funcken of the Congregation of the Resurrection, the educational institution that has become St. Jerome’s University has provided its students with a balance of liberal arts and religious instruction within the context of Roman Catholic teaching. Its role in educating both community and Church leaders was firmly established by 1960, when it became the founding college of the University of Waterloo. At that time, St. Jerome’s University entered into a Federation Agreement with the University of Waterloo. St. Jerome’s waived its degree-granting rights with only one exception: the future right to confer degrees directly in theology. It is that right which St. Jerome’s is exercising through the establishment of this Master of Catholic Thought [MCT] program.

We believe that the theological education received through this program will enrich the work that Catholics and non-Catholics are doing in their community and in their Church.

Major in Ceramics & Fiber Arts Opportunitie at Seoul Womens University Korea South

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

Professional Opportunities
Many of the students continue their study at graduate schools either inside or outside of Korea. Students who complete the requirements for a teacher’s certificate will be eligible to take the teacher’s exam. Many graduates have landed in positions to which their major is relevant. Some have worked independently in their own studios and presented their works at shows such as the Eun Craft Art Show, hosted by alumni of Seoul Women’s University’s arts and crafts department. The most common careers the graduates have launched are those of ceramics/textile designer, middle school/high school teacher, various positions at craft producers, and planning and public relations officer in the corporate sector.

Advice when considering this major
The latest trend of Ceramics/Fiber Arts is to accentuate the characteristics of the materials that the objectives are made of. In practice, this has always been the priority of the craft arts. Ceramics/Fiber Arts have extended from the production of traditional tools to the creation of fine arts, which may help redefine the meaning of Ceramics/Fiber Arts. Today, we are living in an environment inundated with nameless designs and products manufactured by machine. The endless supply of mass produced goods are undermining our creative instincts. Ceramics/Fiber Arts will not only prevent the deterioration of our creativity, but also rekindle our creative inclination. With the help of Ceramics/Fiber Arts, you will be able to see the world in a new light and make people’s lives more fulfilling. Craft arts will be an integral part of the world to come. You are strongly recommended to study craft arts.
