We have designed this program to respond to the need for Catholics who provide leadership in areas such as health care, social services and education to be theologically informed about Roman Catholic life and thought.
As the Roman Catholic university in the Diocese of Hamilton, we want to provide a quality, master’s-level theological program for persons who live and work within this diocese.
News and Events
We also want to serve those Catholics and non-Catholics alike who, for personal reasons, want to pursue a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Catholic tradition.
Since its inception in 1865 by Father Louis Funcken of the Congregation of the Resurrection, the educational institution that has become St. Jerome’s University has provided its students with a balance of liberal arts and religious instruction within the context of Roman Catholic teaching. Its role in educating both community and Church leaders was firmly established by 1960, when it became the founding college of the University of Waterloo. At that time, St. Jerome’s University entered into a Federation Agreement with the University of Waterloo. St. Jerome’s waived its degree-granting rights with only one exception: the future right to confer degrees directly in theology. It is that right which St. Jerome’s is exercising through the establishment of this Master of Catholic Thought [MCT] program.
We believe that the theological education received through this program will enrich the work that Catholics and non-Catholics are doing in their community and in their Church.

The Bachelor’s Programme in Interior Design provides the scientific-technical, artistic-creative and planning-organisational knowledge required for a professionally qualifying degree for independent work in all fields of interior design. The regular study course lasts six semesters. After a broadly-based initial course of study in creative and scientific-technical subjects, the main focus of the study involves practice-related projects in creative design of:
• spaces and buildings for living, working, leisure time, recreation, health and education;
• furniture, products, facilities and equipment for private and public areas;
• temporary spaces and facilities for fairs, exhibitions, parties, events and other public functions;
• the means and processes of communication and media design for agencies, galleries, museums, editorial offices and studios.
A thorough education in the methods and technologies of the application of digital media and programmes in planning, education and communications is mandatory. In addition, there is a wide range of elective courses for the enhancement of knowledge and skills in the artistic, technical, natural-scientific, liberal-arts and cultural fields, which are designed to personalise the students’ study profile.

The Visual Arts minor consists of a core of four required courses (16 credits) and three elective options: art history; fine art; or applied art. The minor is intended to serve two different groups of students. Students pursuing a liberal arts major would take the minor to explore non-linear modes of creative thinking and to become familiar with the ways in which art intersects with history, philosophy, psychology, literature and politics. Students majoring in professional programs such as teacher education, marketing, journalism and computer science can use the visual arts minor to develop some supplementary practical skills that will prove useful in their chosen career.

A design education is a broadly based study of human experience and interaction with the man-made environment, rooted in the liberal arts and design fundamentals, with a focus on purposeful problem solving. The interior design program develops creative, applied, communication, and critical thinking skills through an interdisciplinary curriculum that prepares graduates for careers in residential and/or commercial interior design and many related fields. The design major balances human well-being and quality-of-life concerns with functional, aesthetic, behavioral, environmental and pragmatic approaches to problem solving. Through required coursework, students learn principles of design, the design process, critical thinking and problem solving skills, methods of presenting design concepts, and business practices relevant to interior design.
