Master of Catholic Thought Admissions at University of St. Jeromes College Canada

General Admission Requirements
The basic requirement for admission into this master’s degree program is a four-year Bachelor’s degree, in any discipline, with a minimum overall average of B (75%), and a minimum of two years work experience. Applicants who do not meet these requirements may be considered for admission on an exceptional basis, provided they demonstrate equivalent qualifications.

At St. Jerome’s University the academic year is divided into three terms known as Fall (September-December), Winter (January-April) and Spring (May-August).

The Master of Catholic Thought program admits students two times per year. Students need to apply for admission by May 31 for the Fall term and by September 30 for the Winter term. Late applications will be accepted in exceptional circumstances.

You can request admission in one of the following categories:
Degree students are students possessing a four-year baccalaureate degree from a recognized accredited University or University College or equivalent who are proceeding to completion of the Master of Catholic Thought program.

Non-Degree students are students possessing a four-year baccalaureate degree from a recognized accredited University or University College or equivalent who are taking one or more graduate courses for credit but are not proceeding to completion of the Master of Catholic Thought program.

Auditor
Persons who wish to continue their education, but do not wish to earn academic credit, may be eligible to audit courses. Courses taken as an audit will not count towards a degree. Students must have the permission of the instructor, and registration will normally be limited to 1/3 of the total enrolment for each particular course. Attendance and participation in class is expected.

English Proficiency Requirement
All applicants whose primary or first language is not English must provide a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) certificate or other satisfactory evidence of English proficiency. A minimum score of 550 is required for the paper-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); a minimum score of 213 is required on the computer-based TOEFL; a minimum score of 90 is required on the 1b-TOEFL.

Admission Procedures
The following are the procedures for applying to the Master of Catholic Thought program at St. Jerome’s University. If you do not find the information that you are looking for, or have any questions regarding application procedures, please contact the Director of the MCT program.

The Graduate Admissions Committee will normally consider the application only after receiving all the required documents. Application material submitted in support of the application will not be returned.

All applicants, in all categories, must complete the online application form through the Ontario University Application Centre. There is a $75.00 application fee and applications will not be processed until payment is made.

The application package should include the following: application form, a personal statement, official transcripts, and two references, as per the notes following.

All application packages must include a personal statement. Comment on your reasons for applying to the Master of Catholic Thought program, your academic record, your employment record, any special interests in the area of theological education, your personal interests, activities and goals. Use a separate sheet and attach to the application.

Degree and Non-Degree students must include in their application package an official transcript (i.e., bearing the seal of the institution) from each institution through which you have completed coursework and two supporting references. Of these references, at least one reference should be from an academic who can assess your academic potential. The second referee may be selected from employers, supervisors, other professionals and academics.

Those students wishing to audit courses should apply online as a non-degree student and should include the personal statement with their package as well as a note indicating their desire to audit the courses only. Transcripts and references are not necessary, however, under the Referee section of the online application, please indicate Elyse Redden (St. Jerome’s staff) as your referee. National Diploma in 3D Design at Kingston College

3D design covers a wide range of different design areas and disciplines. Literally everything that is designed for, and in, 3 dimensions from electronic goods such as phones and stereos, to cars and bikes, to architecture and interior design, packaging, furniture, hand produced craft goods, exhibition and museum design etc.
Entry Requirements

The minimum requirements are 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design or a GNVQ Intermediate Award. A portfolio of art and design work is needed for your interview, which should demonstrate an awareness and enthusiasm for design. Prior learning or experience can be accredited. A successful interview and satisfactory reference are required.

International Entry Requirements:

High School Leaving Certificate at C grade or above or other related comparable qualifications. Portfolio of work, satisfactory reference. IELTS 5.0 or an equivalent English Language Certificate
Course Duration

2 years, full time
Content

This course will give you a wide knowledge of technology, materials and manufacturing processes, an understanding of business and marketing as well as the creative skills to develop attractive and innovative concepts. The 3D designer works and develops ideas using 2 dimensional materials, computer aided design and visualisation techniques including the development of web sites and animated computer presentations, and 3 dimensional development models and final facsimile prototypes.

The course is unit based and assessments are made throughout the course. Seventeen units are covered over the two years. Additional learning and pastoral support is provided through the tutorial system.
Progression

A BTEC National Diploma in 3D Design is an ideal route for students looking for places at universities and colleges and careers in product/industrial design, automotive design, furniture design, theatre design, architecture, interior design and modelmaking. It provides a wide base of skills in all areas providing entry into other design areas. Alternatively, you could expect to be employed at junior level in a design or design related job.
Additional Information

While some materials and equipment are provided, you will be expected to pay for most of your own equipment and materials, much of which is available from the College Shop. There will also be a number of trips and visits throughout the course which will incur some costs.

First Diploma in Art and Design at Kingston College

Design is simply about the way we make things look good and work. In the visual arts it includes work in 2 and 3 dimensions such as Graphic Design and Product Design.
Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grades D-G or Foundation GNVQ/Introductor yDiploma or equivalent Level 1 or Level 2 qualifications/related work experience.
You will need to bring to interview a portfolio of art and design work.

Content

This course will help you develop an understanding of how art and design work. You will be introduced to the kinds of skills and knowledge needed to be an effective artist or designer.

The programme is unit based and assessments are made throughout the course. Core units introduce 2D and 3D Visual Communication. Students will be given the opportunity to specialise in Graphic Design, Photography, Fashion, Textiles, 3D Design Fine Art and Digital Media. (It may not be possible to offer all these options but choices will be made in line with student needs in any given year.)
Progression

On successful completion you will gain a BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design graded at pass, merit or distinction (Level 2, equivalent to 4 A*-C grade GCSEs). For students wishing to apply for a National Diploma in a related subject, successful completion of the First Diploma together with an excellent reference, successful interview and portfolio of work are required.

Introductory Diploma in Art Design and Media at Kingston College

This one year course will help you understand the world of art, design and media. You will be encouraged to develop the kinds of practical and personal skills needed to help you learn and reach your full potential.
Entry Requirements

An entry certificate in Skills for Working Life or Life Skills or other entry level qualifications, an appropriate standard of literacy and numeracy, related interests and experiences. A successful interview and satisfactory reference are required.

English Language Level IELTS5.0 or an equivalent English Language Certificate. High School Leaving Certificate D-G grades or other related comparible qualifications. Portfolio of work, satisfactory reference.

Content

The programme is unit based and assessments are made throughout the course. Core units introduce 2D and 3D visual communication and vocational contexts. Students will be given the opportunity to study two specialist units. These may cover Graphic Design, Photography, Fashion, Textiles, 3D Design, Multimedia, animation and video production. It may not be possible to offer all these options but choices will be made in line with student needs in any given year.

Numeracy and literacy skills will be also be delivered as part of this programme.

On successful completion you will gain a BTEC Introductory Diploma in Art, Design and Media graded pass, merit or distinction (Level 1) in addition to separate numeracy and literacy qualifications.
Progression

The BTEC Introductory Diploma qualification provides an ideal route for students looking to move on to further courses in Art, Design and Media at Level 2.

This two year, full time course is designed to introduce you to the main areas of 2D and 3D Art and Design. It provides practical experience as well as enabling students to focus on specific subject areas in greater depth. The different disciplines include Graphic Design, Fine Art, Fashion, Textiles, 3D Design and Art. The course will also give students the opportunity to appreciate the work of other artists and designers and to learn about associated business and professional practice.
