Foundation Diploma in Arts & Design at University of Northumbria at Newcastle UK

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

The Foundation Diploma in Arts and Design (overseas) is specifically designed for overseas students allowing them to gain a foundation of understanding and practice in preparation for commencing a degree. The diploma provides students with the opportunity to develop a portfolio of work of the standard required for entry onto an Honours degree programme.

On successful completion of the diploma together with achieving the necessary IELTS score, which could be 5.5 or 6, the students may be awarded a place on the degree programme within either the School of Arts and Social Sciences or the School of Design at Northumbria.

The programme is founded on developing the drawing skills that are essential in all art and design activity, and students are engaged in projects across the Schools of Art and Design. The range of study and practice culminates in a learning contract which, in the second semester, allows the students to focus on a particular subject as their chosen specialism.

Whilst developing their portfolio of work students can build on their language skills in weekly language classes which are held in the art studios. The link between language and practice is essential for BA level study.
