M.A. and M.S. Degree Requirements

Minimum requirements include 4 credits in courses that focus on theory building and the theoretical and philosophical bases of inquiry in the discipline; 6 credits in courses on qualitative or quantitative methods of research and evaluation; 8 credits for Plan A students, and 18 credits for Plan B students in the area of emphasis; 10 thesis credits for Plan A students; and 6 credits in a related field. Required courses include DHA 8181—Ethics and Research or the equivalent, and DHA 8101—Philosophical Foundations of Design, Housing, and Apparel. Students may be required to complete additional credits upon recommendation of their committee.

Language Requirements—None.

Final Exam—The final exam is oral.

Minor Requirements for Students Majoring in Other Fields—For a master’s minor, a minimum of 9 credits in design, housing, and apparel is required, including DHA 8101. Courses are selected in consultation with the director of graduate studies.

M.F.A. Degree Requirements
Minimum requirements for the M.F.A. include 7 credits in courses that focus on theory building and the theoretical and philosophical bases of inquiry in the discipline, including DHA 8101—Philosophical Foundations of Design, Housing, and Apparel and DHA 5399—Theory of Electronic Design; 6 credits in evaluation and analysis, including DHA 5388—Design Planning, Analysis, and Evaluation; 27 credits in the area of emphasis, including DHA 8114—Design Studio and DHA 8181—Ethics and Research or the equivalent; 12 credits of M.F.A. creative thesis; and 8 credits in a related field. Students may be required to complete additional credits upon recommendation of their committee.

Language Requirements—None.

Final Exam—The final exam is oral.

Ph.D. Degree Requirements
Minimum requirements for the Ph.D. include 6 credits in courses that focus on theory building and the theoretical and philosophical bases of inquiry in the discipline; 9 credits in courses on qualitative and quantitative methods of research and evaluation; 12 credits in the area of emphasis; 24 thesis credits; and 12 credits in a supporting program. Required courses include DHA 8181—Ethics and Research or the equivalent and DHA 8101—Philosophical Foundations of Design, Housing, and Apparel. Admission—Individuals must have adequate undergraduate education in the area of emphasis and background in the basic disciplines of art, social science, physical science, and biological science appropriate to the area of emphasis. To pursue a degree with interior design as the emphasis area, a first professional degree in interior design is required. Students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. must first complete a master’s degree. Specific requirements may be obtained by contacting the director of graduate studies.

Special Application Requirements—Consult the director of graduate studies; scores from the GRE are required. Students pursuing a degree in an emphasis related to design are required to submit a portfolio consisting of 15-20 examples of recent work. Students pursuing a Ph.D. are required to submit a writing sample. Students are admitted for fall semester only.

Admission into the BFA or BA degree programs requires filing a Declaration of Major Form and a consultation with the department chair.
Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree
A professional degree program that offers a balance of theoretical and practical skills complimented by the enriched experience of the liberal arts environment of Pacific.
The goal of this degree is to develope skills, concepts, and sensitivities essential to professional Studio Artists and Graphic Designers.
Designed for students who are willing to engage in a rigorous undergraduate program that provides preparation for professional life through internships, graduate studies, or entry-level opportunities in the arts and arts-related fields.

To complete a BFA degree in 4 years a student should complete 17 units each semester to accrue 136 units.

The programme offers an educational model that succeeded in meeting the demands of an ever-more flexible and articulated work place and of an increasingly complex society. In addition to advanced research and applied disciplines, students will participate in design and planning workshops led by some of the most highly qualified professionals in Italy and abroad. The programme’s workshops are equipped for computer elaboration, model-making and rapid prototyping, ergonomics and product safety. Internships give students hands-on experience in qualified production and service companies both in Italy and abroad. Each year the programme organizes an itinerant exhibition of students’ work at locations in Treviso, Venice, and Milan.

Graduates from the industrial design programme may choose to embark on independent professional careers, or begin working as collaborators and employees for professional studios and firms, or continue studies at graduate levels by enrolling in the faculty’s postgraduate programmes in product design or in visual and multimedia design and communication.

The PhD programme in industrial design offers a further possibility for continuing graduate studies at an elevated, scientific level.

Financial Aid for Graduate Students at Grand Valley State University

Three types of financial aid are available to degree-seeking graduate students enrolled for at least 4.5 credit hours at Grand Valley:

1. Federal College Work-Study Program: The majority of campus jobs are funded under this program (see following program description).

2. Student Loans: Federal Direct Student Loans of up to $10,250 per semester are available (see following program description). In addition graduate students are able to borrow through the Federal Graduate PLUS loan. This loan program does require a credit check. For additional information see our website at www.gvsu.edu/financialaid. Private, alternative education loan program information is also available at our site under the “How Do I” section of our website.

3. Assistantships: You can find additional information regarding assistantships at www.gvsu.edu/gsga/gs which is the Graduate Studies website.

Fellowships

Fellowships are awarded based on academic merit to highly qualified students. They are paid to students through the Office of Student Financial Assistance, based on instructions provided by the College of Graduate Studies. Fellowships are given to support a student’s graduate study and do not have a work obligation. Admission for Design M F A at University Of Central Oklahoma

Admissions

Qualified graduates of accredited colleges and universities are eligible to apply for admission to the University of Central Oklahoma’s Jackson College of Graduate Studies. An applicant’s minimum undergraduate GPA must be 2.50 or higher (or 2.75 or higher in the last 60 hours completed). Overall minimum GPA requirements may vary and applicant’s must meet the requirements of their individual program. (See our Graduate Catalog for further individual program requirements).

Procedures

Prospective students must complete an application form (this may be done online or by downloading and printing the Application Form from our website), pay a non-refundable $50 application fee, supply official transcripts from all institutions attended including an official transcript from the institution where the student graduated with an undergraduate bachelor’s degree posted, and any support documents such as admission test scores, letters of recommendation, etc., which may be a specific program requirement.

While the JCGS uses a common Application for Admission to Graduate Studies (or online application), each graduate program will have its own specific admission requirements. You can find full details on the requirements for admission to graduate studies and to each program in our Graduate Catalog.

Once all the required documents are received from the student, a copy of those documents is sent to the relevant Graduate Program Advisor for his/her recommendation for admittance to the program. The student will be notified by U.S. mail and by email of the admission decision.

Conditional Admission

Selected Graduate Programs at UCO allow conditional graduate admission for those students whose undergraduate GPA does not meet the minimum required for regular admission into the program. Conditional admission is not allowed under any other criteria and is not offered by all graduate programs. You can find details on the requirements for Conditional Admission to graduate studies at UCO in the Graduate Catalog section on “Conditional Admission ” and under the requirements for each of the Graduate Degree Programs.

International Admissions

The JCGS welcomes applications from students from every country in the world. UCO enjoys the presence of approximately 1,200 students from 73 different countries.

Due to the amount of time needed to process an international application, admission application deadlines are in place and are strictly observed:
Fall semester—July 1st
Spring Semester—November 1st
Summer Semester—April 1st

Theatre

St. Cloud State University is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre. The Bachelor of Arts is designed for those students interested in careers in the theatre, including acting, directing, design, technical theatre, and management. This program of study also provides excellent preparation for the student who wishes to pursue graduate studies in the performing arts. Students receive a thorough background in dramatic literature, history, and theory, and opportunities for intensive study in performance, directing and advanced design.
