Credit certificates
Designed for individuals seeking professional development or a focused, sequential approach to a specific discipline, credit certificates from the Corcoran College of Art + Design may be completed through part-time study in one to three years.
Certificate students fully participate in classes, often with Degree students, and are held to the same high standards.
Certificates in Design prepare students to enter one of several expanding technology-based fields, or advance their current design careers. Fine Arts Certificate students access the Corcoran’s well-equipped studios, extensive offerings, and outstanding faculty. Electives are chosen in consultation with an advisor who can also approve substitutions for required courses, based on students’ prior studies or experience.
Each certificate program is either 15.0 or 18.0 credits in length. With the exception of some Botanical Art and Illustration courses, each course carries 1.5 or 3.0 credits. For a certificate to be issued, the requirements must be completed within a three-year period with a grade of C or better in each course. Students must ensure that the Office of the Registrar receives notification of their completion of high school or the equivalent before submitting their certificate request form.

The Bachelor of Interior Design program is offered online via distance learning. After evaluating both academic record and life experience, AIU staff working in conjunction with Faculty and Academic Advisors will assist students in setting up a custom-made program, designed on an individual basis. This flexibility to meet student needs is seldom found in other distance learning programs. Our online program does not require all students to take the same subjects/courses, use the same books, or learning materials. Instead, the online Bachelor of Interior Design curriculum is designed individually by the student and academic advisor. It specifically addresses strengths and weaknesses with respect to market opportunities in the student’s major and intended field of work. Understanding that industry and geographic factors should influence the content of the curriculum instead of a standardized one-fits-all design is the hallmark of AIU’s unique approach to adult education. This philosophy addresses the dynamic and constantly changing environment of working professionals by helping adult students in reaching their professional and personal goals within the scope of the degree program.
Important: Below is an example of the topics or areas you may develop and work on during your studies. By no means is it a complete or required list as AIU programs do not follow a standardized curriculum. It is meant solely as a reference point and example. UPH offers the dual degree program in partnership with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). QUT is one of Australian’s largest universities with 40,000 students, 12% of them are international students (QUT Statistics). QUT offers a broad range of undergraduate degrees than most other universities, with the flexibility to choose a combination of study areas as well as participate in exchange programs with overseas universities. Each year QUT is the largest provider of bachelor degree graduates into full-time employment in Australia and its graduate employment rate is well above the national average for Australian universities. QUT brings its rich past, performance-focused present and exciting future into the dual degree program.
This dual degree program is designed to enable students to gain local and international perspectives in obtaining their undergraduate degree. In the first 4 semesters at UPH, students are introduced to basic design skills, 2D/3D conceptual exercises and combination of furniture, residential and commercial case studies. Students also build on a wide range of knowledge of Indonesian heritage and indigenous wisdom as the foundation of building a unique design perspective. The next 4 semesters are finalized at QUT where students engage in the international context of the design industry environment. Projects at QUT offer specialization from various disciplines offered across the university. Students are encouraged to produce a body of work which represents the hybrid nature of the course and encapsulates unique characteristics from both Australian and Indonesian context.

Interaction Design
The Interaction Design programme concerns the interaction between people and products in which information technology is a central component. This can, for instance, be the design of the complex interface between the driver and the network of computers controlling a modern car, the interface and gameplay of modern computer games, the next generation of mobile communication devices or the integration of computational technology into our everyday things, such as ’intelligent clothes’. Regardless of the application, a design perspective on the interaction between people and technology is central. This makes interaction design an increasingly important area in application and systems development, as well as in industrial and product design.
Programme
The programme gives students the theoretical and practical knowledge to work creatively in interaction design. Specific courses, such as Design Methodology, Human-Centred Design, Graphical Interfaces and Gameplay Design, provide design skills while courses such as Computer Graphics, Simulation Engines and Physical Computing, provide technical skills. Students can then gain practical experience from applying these skills in the Ubiquitous Computing course, a one-term project course, and the Master’s thesis. The education is structured in such a way that students can take a minor during the second year and specialise towards either a more technology-oriented version or a more user-oriented version. Those focusing on technology develop core knowledge within 3D programming, visualisation, augmented reality and game engines while those focusing on users develop core knowledge about participatory design and user analysis methods.
