The interior design program at Ursuline College prepares students for entry level positions in interior design for a variety of career paths. Students are also prepared, upon completion of the required amount of work experience after graduation, to sit for the NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) examination.

Aims and Objectives
The interior design program at Ursuline College prepares students for entry level positions in interior design for a variety of career paths. Upon completion of the required amount of work experience after graduation, students will have the foundation to sit for the NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) examination.

The liberal arts core curriculum combines with a 72 hour major, including 54 hours of interior design courses and 18 hours of required supporting courses in studio art and business, to provide a varied and integrative curriculum. The academic internship enhances the students’ applied education and assists in the transition to the professional world. The department has strong ties with the local professional design community and an active student chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).

Students also are exposed to a variety of experiences such as professional design critiques, a variety of different types of field trips, and community service projects. Students successfully completing the program are awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree; students already possessing a Bachelor of Arts degree upon entering the program will be granted a Certificate in Interior Design upon successful completion of the 72 credit hours in the major.

From its inception in 1968 the Department of Design has been offering program leading to the Bachelor of Arts in Design (B.A. in Design). However, there is increasing demand in Kenya and challenges, which graduates of current B.A. in Design are unable to address with a sense of professional competence. The shortfall in meeting the challenges are attributable to the gaps which today’s higher education programs, at diploma or undergraduate levels, have not been able to address and meet. The gaps can be abridged through the Master of Arts Degree in Design (M.A. in Design).

The M.A. Design emphasizes research to extend the boundary knowledge, to acquire professional skills and to address unmet needs. It strives to address local, national, regional and international challenges. It also lays emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, concerns for the disadvantaged and national development goals.

The main objectives of the program are to:-
i) Enable students to accurately translate cultural, social economic and intellectual concerns into successful concepts and designs;

ii) Sharpen student’s ability to assess design challenges which are experienced locally, nationally.

Design is an accelerating factor which plays an important role side by side with productivity and management.

The aims and objectives of the four year Bachelor of Arts degree course in design are based on professional education for national development. Design education entails making the students aware of the economic, commercial, industrial and technological factors on design activities. Among others, professional design education include:-

UG in Design for Leadership at The Defiance College Ohio

The Design for Leadership is a Distance Learning program created in 1971 to serve persons who seek a career in religious education, but whose geographical location makes it impossible for them to pursue studies in a college offering a major in religious education. The Design for Leadership also serves persons already employed in religious education, but needing formal education in the profession. Most students in the Design for Leadership are re-entry or non-traditional students; that is, they are beyond the traditional college age of 18-25.

The program was initiated and continues to be supported by the Schauffler Endowment. Funds from the United Church Council on Higher Education and various churches have enabled the program to move beyond Ohio and serve students anywhere in the United States, Canada or the Armed Forces. Graduates find employment in both part-time and full-time positions in churches or continue their studies in graduate institutions.

The Design for Leadership offers both certificate and degree programs. Certificate programs available include the Church Education Certificate, the Youth Ministry Leadership Module, and the African American Ministry Leadership Module. Degree programs include an A.A. in Religious Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Education.

The BA in Design Studies with a concentration in design history is a highly flexible program of study. Much like a liberal arts degree, there is a general path where students select design and design-related courses offered in the college and throughout the university. This concentration program places a strong focus of the historical aspects of design as they pertain to the disciplines in the college. Students acquire a breadth of design knowledge via courses taken from three categories: general design, design history and communication for design.

Career Opportunities

Although a specific career path is not the principal intention of the Bachelor of Arts in Design Studies, recent graduates of the program have become involved in sales and marketing in the design sector, or have gone on to graduate studies in architecture and planning. Other possible career paths include journalism and education.

Graduation
The study leads after seven semesters for a Bachelor of Arts in Media Design - an internationally recognized academic degree. This gives you all the opportunities in work and studies (Master).

The basic (1-3 semester)
Up to the bachelor’s screening in the 3rd Semester, the basis for Undergraduate Education in the field of digital media; taught the basic course of classic design and artistic design with subjects such as visual thinking, drawing, fundamentals of painting, typography, and three-dimensional figures. In parallel, both the broad outlines of the project management but also provides bases for object-oriented programming made. In order for a responsible and conscious use of the new media can be done, in addition to art and media history, media and philosophy, sociology and media communication theory taught. Focus of the project are computer graphics, multimedia, video, audio, classic animation and computer animation.

After preliminary examination of the bachelor is to deepen the knowledge base in audiovisual design through detailed project studies planned. The issues are cultural, social and scientific fields and projects of partner companies. Student skills in English and close coordination of the study with international partner universities form the prerequisite for the semester abroad.

Internship
The 4th Semester will be hanging together in a practical enterprise, where the experience intensified.

Semester Abroad
The 5th Semester will be sent to an English university spent, while projects are started continued. Benefits are achieved by the Fachhochschule Schwäbisch Hall acknowledged.
