Major in Sculpture at Pacific Northwest College of Art Oregon
PNCA’s Sculpture department encourages students to work within a broad range of 3-dimensional practices to explore both contemporary and traditional art-making approaches. The sculpture studios provide excellent facilities, on-site technicians, and the expertise of a diverse faculty. Students individualize their production, and directions may include: stand-alone objects, site-specific works, multiples, installations, performance, or any number of hybrid forms of 3-dimensional engagement.
Projects & Assignments
A full-scale hot air balloon, used as a metaphor on various levels, was one senior’s thesis project. She made every element herself, working with textiles, basket weaving, and other traditional processes.
One student created a sculpture primarily from video equipment. Images captured in realtime on a surveillance camera were played back in an agonizingly slow fashion on the sculpture’s monitor.
Sewing and craft-based techniques enabled another student to concentrate on making touchable pieces, such as flocked clay sculptures.

The Printmaking Department boasts one of the most vibrant and energetic studios on campus. Pacific Northwest College of Art awards scholarships for entering Fall semester students who demonstrate potential to succeed in the BFA program. A PNCA jury will award scholarships to applicants who demonstrate outstanding creative abilities and scholarly achievement. Financial need is considered for some of the applicants.
The Dorothy Lemelson Scholarship is awarded to one student who shows exceptional promise as indicated by academic history, admissions essays and portfolio. Financial need is considered. Renewable up to four years, this scholarship is for the full cost of attendance as determined by PNCA’s Financial Aid office.

The Pacific Northwest College of Art and Oregon College of Art and Craft joint MFA in Applied Craft and Design is a 60-credit, two-year program that merges the highest level of craft with design practice and entrepreneurial strategies. The PNCA campus consists of three academic buildings: the Edith Goodman Building; the 3-D Studios;
Pushing the boundaries of traditional graphic design, Communication Design combines design skills with conceptual thinking and practical experience, preparing students to be active participants in the creative community. The curriculum is designed for exploration in other media and students are encouraged to bring their experiences back to their design work. Skill-building, collaborative projects, learning how to work with clients, professional experience through internships, and Global Studios opportunities are balanced with theory and critical thinking for a design education that meets the needs of the global marketplace.

Pacific Northwest College of Art awards both merit and need based MFA scholarships. All students accepted to the MFA in Visual Studies Program will be considered for the MFA merit based scholarships. Recipients of merit based scholarships are selected by the Graduate Committee composed of PNCA faculty and the MFA Chair.
Individual merit and need based scholarships range from $2,000 to $15,000 per year. To be considered for the need based scholarships, students must submit the Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1st.
